How do I book The Great Barn for my event?

Is The Great Barn available on my required date?
Our availability calendar allows you to quickly see if the date you are looking at is already taken - and possible alternative dates that may be available.
Is The Great Barn licensed for civil ceremonies?
The Great Barn is an approved civil ceremony location, licensed for both civil weddings and civil partnerships.
You must give a notice of marriage via your local registry office at least 15 days before your ceremony. Please note, once you’ve reserved a date at The Great Barn, it is your responsibility to book the registrar.

Do we have exclusive use of Headstone Manor?
No. You do have exclusive use of The Great Barn and the rear outdoor grassland area, however the Manor House, Granary Learning Centre and museum grounds are open to the general public from Tuesday to Sunday 10am-4pm. The Museum is closed to the public on Monday’s but regular family events take place in the Granary and Manor House.
Is parking available?
Our discreetly positioned parking ensures that none of your event photographs feature a car park in the background and can accommodate up to 138 cars with 10 disabled parking bays. Please note, the car park is also used by the general public and, unfortunately, we cannot offer reserved spaces.
The wedding car is allowed to be on the museum grounds for drop off, photographic opportunities and pick up only.
When can we set up for our event?
You have access to The Great Barn from 10am on the day of your event. Your dedicated Event Co-ordinator will be on hand to liaise with your suppliers on the day and ensure the set up runs smoothly. Additional hours can be requested subject to availability and at a supplementary charge.
Is The Great Barn suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs?
The Great Barn is easily accessible and we provide both disabled toilet facilities and a baby changing facility as well as 10 disabled parking bays. We also have highchairs available for you to use, if needed.
Where can we take photographs of our event?
You are welcome to use any part of the Headstone Manor and Museum grounds for your photographs, excluding the inside of the Manor House, Granary Learning Centre and the Small Barn.
Can we use our own caterers?
We have a preferred list of caterers that we would encourage you to use for you event, they will have worked at the venue on multiple occasions. We can however be flexible if you have specific supplier in mind and would be happy to work with caterers of your choice for your event. The Great Barn offers a finishing kitchen only, all preparation and cooking must be done off site or in a mobile kitchen in our outdoor space at the rear of the venue.
The outdoor grassland, included in your venue hire, is the ideal space for a BBQ and/or hog roast for your guests. Please note that coal and wood burning fires are not permitted and must be gas or electric only.
Your Event Co-ordinator will liaise with your chosen caterer to ensure all arrangements run smoothly and that we receive the necessary risk assessment, food hygiene certificate and public liability insurance documents.
Do you supply tables, chairs and linens?
We do offer tables and chairs, but linens are not included as part of your hire. Your caterer will be able to supply these for you or you can speak with the Events Team at the venue who can recommend a specific linen supplier.
Can we have a live band and/or DJ?
Yes. Your Event Co-ordinator will liaise with the DJ and/or band to ensure we receive the necessary risk assessment and public liability insurance documents. We also have some noise restrictions as part of our licence which we will inform them of.
We offer a PA system and wireless microphone for background music and speeches.
Are candles, helium balloons, confetti, fireworks allowed?
We do allow candles as long as there is no open flame and the candle sits within a suitable holder.
Due to the height of the barn we do not allow helium balloons. However, many suppliers can provide balloon displays that do not require helium.
We are happy for your guests to use confetti but ask that it is fully biodegradable.
Unfortunately, fireworks are not permitted on the site.
What time does our event have to end?
You have access to the barn from 10.00 to 23.00 Monday to Wednesday, and 10.00 to 23.55 Thursday to Sunday.
All suppliers and guests need to be off site by the closing time; therefore we close the bar at either 22.00 during the week, or 23.00 Thursday to Sunday.
Do we have to pack everything up at the end of the night?
We ask that you take all your belongings and items with you at the end of your event. All wastage also needs to be removed, either by yourselves or your suppliers. We are happy to arrange for your refuse to be removed from the venue, please speak to our events team regarding the charges for this service.
Are dogs allowed in The Great Barn?
Our venue has a strict policy regarding dogs, they are welcome around the grounds, but not inside the buildings. However, guide dogs are admitted in all buildings.
